Prayer and obedience to God’s Word are the tools we learned to use to make our spiritual foundation level and smooth before our Heavenly Father in week two of the Called to be a Keeper Bible Study. Lori Merrill shared with us the example of her grandmother as a woman of humility and prayer and the powerful affect her prayers and her example had on Lori’s life. We learned that prayer demonstrates our trust in God and our dependence on Him. Prayer aligns our will with God’s will when we pray as Jesus did, Not my will, but Thy will be done. Prayer also produces peace and love in our hearts which overflows into all areas of our lives.
I am very grateful that God allows us and even commands us to come boldly before His throne with our requests and tells us that if we ask anything in His name, He will do it (see Hebrews 4:16 and John 14:13-14). I am thankful also, that as Americans we have been blessed to live in a country that protects our freedom of religion and has a history of setting aside specific days for prayer. The National Day of Prayer is the first Thursday in May.
I encourage you to participate in this very important day when we as a nation lift our praise, prayers and petitions to Almighty God with one voice. Yes, you could pray in your own home as you do on a daily basis, but I would encourage you to find and attend an organized event in your community for several reasons:
- It is an opportunity to make a public profession of your faith just by being there.
- It encourages the body of Christ when we support each other and stand together.
- It is a tremendous blessing to pray in one accord and one voice with other believers.
There are many events planned in every state throughout the day, to find one near you and to learn more about the history and purpose of the National Day of Prayer please visit their website at www.nationaldayofprayer.org.
If… My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
