Here are a few more ideas you could use to teach the Easter story to your children:

  • Consider planning an Easter Treasure Hunt. Gather such items as hammer, nails, towel, water jug, cloths, branch of palm tree, sponge, cross, thorny branch, crown, cup, jar of spices, construction paper heart. Hide these items with a note or number near. Have your children gather them in an Easter basket. Talk about each item and how it relates to Easter. If you don’t have time or creativity to gather each item, consider purchasing a dozen Resurrection eggs and share the game over and over with your children.

  • Research the use of such items as the Easter lily or the Easter egg. Explore together the Christian application and why we celebrate the newness that Easter brings.

  • If your church offers a special service on Good Friday or Easter Sunday, go early, sit together as a family and discuss what each element of the worship hour means. Discuss this most important holiday with joy in your heart as together you celebrate His life.

  • If your children are old enough, study and participate in a Passover meal together as you look into the symbolism of each item and consider the final meal Jesus ate with His disciples before His death.

These are just a few ideas of how to put Christ at the center of your Easter celebration and make Easter an opportunity for evangelism and discipleship of your dear family. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you pray, plan, and lead your family time in worship this Easter season.
