What started as a much-needed outdoor project turned into a bit of a “prickly” situation. I’m not sure what I got into or grabbed when I was weeding under my knockout rose bushes yesterday. However, it looked like I had grabbed a porcupine or it had attacked me! Maybe you can help me out?! Any expert gardeners out there?

The spiritual lesson happened just as quickly and maybe even stung a little more than these needle-like thorns:

I have to be prepared for whatever comes my way in life. I can’t know what the “it” is or know what the Lord may allow into my life, but I have to be as ready as I can possibly be. That is my responsibility and yours. There may be surprises along the way that hurt, sting, or knock us off our feet, but if we have prepped for life beforehand then we know Who is carrying us when those times seem to be too much for us. How do I prepare for those times that are difficult? I spend DAILY time in His Word and in prayer preparing spiritually for what the day might hold, for what life might hold. “Your Word I have hid in my heart so that I might not sin against You.” ( Psalm 119:11) It is also important to treasure His Word in such a way that I memorize it and meditate on it. What security it brings to know that even when I get “surprised” by the difficulties in life…

…I have a Savior that is never surprised and is always with me. Not only that, but He is, “…going before me and fighting on my behalf…” (Deuteronomy 1:30)

Blessings,

Lori
