One of my favorite pastimes has always been reading with my children. I love the calmness of it, the feel of their warm little bodies totally relaxing into mine. I must confess when my children got old enough to read to me, there were even times when I was getting in a quick nap as they were reading!

Over the years, our family has built up quite a library of picture books, and now that my youngest is almost eleven, chapter books as well.

I have several picture books for just about every holiday that rolls around which I set out just for that particular time and then store back away until next year. The children have always looked forward to seeing their favorite books for the holiday appear and we enjoy reading them once again.

A few of our families’ Easter favorites are The Legend of the Easter Egg by Lori Walburg, The Thornbush by Michael Laughlin, The Very First Easter by Paul L. Maier, andBenjamin’s Box by Melody Carlson. Benjamin’s Box can be read as a stand-alone story, but it is designed to be used with “Resurrection Eggs,” which can be bought at most Christian bookstores.

All of these books do a wonderful job of explaining the story of Easter to children. If your children are old enough to know how to take care of books, leave them out where they can see them and are easy to reach for the entire Easter season. The stories will be enjoyed by your family over and over again.
