Friends, We all know what a joy and blessing it is to be a mother. We also know there are times in our lives that this blessing can be overwhelming, difficult, and something that we don’t believe we are qualified for. I remember well when my children were young and my husband worked and traveled a lot with his job. Even though I was often alone physically with my children, I wasn’t alone in my parenting. I had a mate to share responsibilities and to make decisions with. While discussing this with a friend, we thought about the women that don’t get a break in the evenings and don’t have a mate for emotional and mental support. Because of this discussion, I was convicted by the Lord to pray for the single mothers I knew while I was rocking my babies to bed or when I was awake in the night meeting their needs. It was a new godly perspective and a good way to discipline my mind while practicing prayer. This also kept my focus on thankfulness instead of being about me and my supposed “hardship”.
Maybe you are a single mom or you know a single mom. If so, I want to share something I believe is very worthwhile. I have a friend and co-laborer in the ministry by the name of Pam Kanaly. She is president of Arise Ministries, a national women’s organization based here in Edmond, Oklahoma. One of their outreaches is to single mothers. Each year the Arise team puts on a statewide single mothers conference Survive N Thrive- with Governor Mary Fallin as the Honorary Chair. This year’s 8th annual event is June 22-23 in Oklahoma City. Hundreds of single moms and children come for a weekend of fun, revival and fresh faith. You may not be a single mom, but everyone knows one, and the best thing you can do is get her to this conference. Registration deadline is June 15th. I hope you will consider praying for the single mother in your life and possibly helping her get to this conference. See www.singlemomsconference.org
