Here is another great project using chalkboard paint!
Gather your supplies:
Tray
Sanding Block or Sandpaper
Chalk Board Paint
Sponge Brush
Ribbon
***See notes in previous post regarding Chalk Board Paint.
Use your sanding block or sand paper to prepare the tray. This tray was metal with a coat of semi-gloss dark blue paint. Roughing up the surface will allow the chalk board paint to adhere better.
Brush on an even coat (or two, if you’d like) of chalk board paint. I find that a sponge brush provides a smoother finish which is nice for a project like this.
Allow paint to dry and add a ribbon to hang. If you can’t thread ribbon through your tray, add adhesive hangers to the back to thread ribbon through or to hang tray directly on the wall.
Even in the age of technology, chalkboards have a special charm!

This was easier to do than I expected. I think it would make a great gift. : )
This is such a pretty and useful idea! It’s a great place to write a personalized welcome for guests or recognizing special days like birthdays.
Lovely idea. I agree that even in this age of technology, writing down message has special touch. It is also erasable for multi purpose use. I think I will make several for Christmas gifts.
I would hang this somewhere so I could write my husband notes that he could read as he walks out of the house to leave for work! Such a fun idea!
Too cute….love this gift ideaa!!
Thanks for sharing.
Oh, I wish I didn’t have “issues” with chalk!! So I can’t make this one, but if I win it, I’ll give it to my daughter who loves playing school and will certainly put it up in her room!
Love this! We just painted our door into the garage with chalkboard paint to help keep us organized on the way out the door. I love this to hang as a “welcome” sign for guests who are coming. We use a chalkboard in the kitchen to put scriptures on too. So many cute ideas!
Great idea! I like the idea of putting a menu on it for the holidays…just put it on an easel on the bar rather than hanging.
Great ideas Sunny! I wouldn’t have thought about putting different color ribbons for the different reasons and seasonal scripture ideas. I would make it for my cousin who is hard to shop for.
Oops, forgot to say I am making one for myself to put my menu on for the day and also one for my mama with various ribbons to put through based on the seasons. I will include 3×5 cards (in the gift) with verses on them for her to have handy to write on them through the months. Yay!
So cute, I’m totally doing this one. Love all the ideas. That Amber G. is amazing
The photos are wonderful as well! Thanks for sharing such great ideas.
So cute! I think I’ll make one for myself & for a gift for my sister!
Again….another great idea. I’m heading to Tulsa today to get the supplies to make this for my two daughter in laws for Christmas. I really think they will love it!! Who knows who else will end up with one of these cute chalkboards!!
Thank you for awesome ideas!!
