Today is the day to celebrate motherhood. This day can invoke feelings of all kinds depending on who you are and what has happened in your life. It doesn’t take long to begin a list of reasons why this day can be difficult. It may not be difficult to you because you may be one that was blessed to have had a wonderful childhood with a godly mother that raised you to love the Lord. Or you may have lost your mother recently or when you were young. Maybe you want to be a mother and haven’t been able to give birth. No matter what your circumstance I want to challenge each of us today. I ask that we all stop and think about the people that God placed in our lives that became a ‘mother’ of some sort to us. For me, I see many people that were used by God to intervene in my life to shape and mold me and even protect me. Many were Christians, many were not. No matter what their relationship with the Lord, hindsight tells me that they were put in my life by God to accomplish His purpose for me. My list includes: a grandmother that prayed for me, an aunt, an elementary school teacher, a junior high school teacher who later became my high school counselor, my cheerleader sponsor, a couple of mothers of my friends, and a neighbor. Focusing on the sovereign hand of God in my life helps me to be thankful and grateful. I praise Him for how He used each of these people to accomplish His divine purpose in my life. What about you? Have you ever stopped to thank God for who He placed in your life at just the right time? Whether this is your biological mother or some other wonderful woman that influenced you and spoke Truth into your life; be faithful. Take a few minutes today to speak words of gratefulness to God and to that person. Call, write, send an email, or go see them in person. Encourage that person by telling them what a difference they made and how they were used by God in your life. We have that responsibility and privilege to give back encouragement. I challenge you to take this important step and then I want to hear how God uses it in their life and yours!
