Gift-Giving 101 {2010} Project #8: Cocoa Cones

Posted by Renee Corley on 11/25/2010

In Oklahoma, we don't see nearly as much snow here as I did growing up in Pennsylvania. I remember playing in the snow and then sitting in front of the furnace or fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate before going back out to play and doing it all over again. Snow or no snow, my kids still enjoy the hot chocolate just as much as I did (and still do). These cocoa cones are great to place in a basket by your front door to hand out to those who come visit around the holidays and I like to keep a few already made in the pantry. They make enough for 2, so find your favorite child, your mom or dad, your neighbor or friend, your spouse or significant other, sit down for a few moments, and enjoy making memories with those you love. And if you are at home, don't forget you can combine these with Lori's items from the "hot chocolate bar!"

- 1 cup cocoa mix - 2 (6- by 12-inch) cone-shaped cellophane bags (in cake-decorating aisle) - 1/4 cup chocolate chips, crushed candy cane chunks, or other fun ingredients - 3/4 cup mini marshmallows or white chocolate chips - Raffia or ribbon of your choice

1. Pour cocoa mix into one of the bags. I place my bag in a tall glass and also use a funnel to keep the bag clean at the top. Close the bag with a clear rubber band, then trim the end of the bag 1 above the band.

2. Place the cocoa-filled bag into the second bag and flatten its top so the end doesn't stick up. This will prevent the cocoa from mixing with the other layers. I honestly don't always do this and sometimes put it all in one bag easier to pour into your cup.

3. Layer the chocolate chips or other toppings and/or marshmallows.

Other fun ingredient layers:

Butterscotch Chips Mint Chips Holiday Non-pareils Cinnamon Sticks Holiday shaped marshmallows Red Hots Gumdrops Reeses bits Caramel bits

4. Secure the bag with a holiday ribbon and tag. Add a scripture and instructions for the hot cocoa. Makes 2 servings.

Makes 2 servings: add to 16 oz. hotwater or milk. Mix and enjoy!

1 Cor. 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Cocoa cones make great gifts for those of any age. They are pretty to display and you can add almost anything to make them a little extra special. We would love to have you comment below about what you are most thankful for!

I am most thankful that God's mercies are new every morning, that He loved me before I knew Him, and He will be faithful to complete the work He began in me.
