Gift Giving 101 -Holiday Scent Bags with Printable Tags
The fall season brings cooler weather, changing leaves, football and families together. With Thanksgiving and Christmas on the horizon we can schedule ourselves into an overload. One way to help us choose what’s important is to consider others more important than ourselves.
Philippians 2:3-4 is a wonderful scripture to encourage us. This has been a sweet reminder to invest in others through out the year not just during the holidays. We love to assemble these scent jars and pass them out to neighbors, teachers or friends right before Thanksgiving. I was so inspired by this gift idea by Julie Lewis, back in 2007 at our first Keepers Holiday event, that I ’ve done it every year. It smells so good, and I pray it inspires you to love and serve others well this season.

HOLIDAY SCENT GIFT BAGS/JARS
- A handful of whole cloves or 1 tablespoon
- 2 long Cinnamon sticks –or 4 short ones
- 1 regular size orange or 2-3 small clementine’s if using jars
- 1 lemon
- 1 lime
- 4 Bay leaves
- 1 large clear plastic party bag or a quart size mason jar
- Fall, Christmas or pretty paper cut into 2x4 inch squares
- Seasonal ribbon, twine or raffia
Directions: Using a clear party bag or mason jar, place cloves in first. Next carefully arrange the orange, lemon and lime on top of cloves, cover with bay leaves and add the cinnamon sticks.
Print out scripture and instruction pages. Cut and glue scripture to the front of a 2x4 piece of cut pretty paper, glue instruction on the back. You can hole punch and attach instead of gluing. You may also just print your pages on decorative paper, cut each one, hole punch and attach as option. Don’t stress about the paper, just get both on bag or jar secured with your ribbon choice.
All these items can be bought in bulk at most grocery stores. Cinnamon sticks are also in bulk through online groceries. Make sure they are real food grade and not decorative sticks. Clear party bags and mason jars are at Wal-Mart, Michaels and Hobby Lobby. The most cost friendly way will be using the clear bags.
2 Corinthians 2: 14-15
“Thanks be to God, who always leads us in His triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ”
Cut lemon, lime, and orange into quarters. Combine fruit, spices, and 2 quarts of water into a large saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer as long as desired. Cover any leftover mixture, refrigerate, and reuse. Just make sure there is always water covering the ingredients when simmering. Enjoy!
