Do you love new beginnings? A fresh new day, a promising new week, an exciting new year full of possibilities! Or maybe the uncertainty of the future makes you fearful and circumstances out of your control threaten your peace of mind and steal your joy. No matter what yesterday looked like, today holds HOPE! I was reminded of this truth as I read from Lamentations 3:21-25:
This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Thy faithfulness.
As I meditated on this passage several things struck me. First of all, the importance of remembering God’s promises and recalling them to mind. We do this when we are in His Word. Additionally, when we memorize His Word the Holy Spirit can recall that scripture to our mind just at the moment we need it. The result of remembering God’s promises to us is hope. Biblical hope is not wishing something were so, it is a confidence in what is true! The truth is that God’s love for us never stops (no matter how we may stumble or how bleak our circumstances look) and His compassion for us never runs out (no matter how many times we fail).
God’s lovingkindness and compassion for us renews every morning and can never expire (unlike the coupons in my drawer and the milk in my refrigerator!) God’s character is Faithfulness, He cannot do otherwise:
If we are faithless, He remains faithful; for He cannot deny Himself. II Tim. 2:13
He who promised is faithful. Heb. 10:23
God is faithful… I Cor. 1:9
Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass. I Thes. 5:34
We can put our trust completely in a God who is completely faithful!
My prayer for myself and for you is that each new day of this new year is filled with HOPE as we recall God’s love, compassion and faithfulness which He provides fresh and new each morning.
