Book Review -Preparing My Heart for Advent
Do you struggle with the upcoming holidays and all the busyness that surrounds them? Do you always have the intention of 'doing it better this year'? Are you grumpy, edgy and have a bah humbug attitude as you make your way through each day or are you joyful, at peace and not stressed as you skip through the season? I think for all of us the answer we give is determined by our attitude towards, and what our focus is on, this season. I ALWAYS feel like I could do a better job of keeping Christ as the center of my Christmas…how sad that it is to be about HIM, yet I have to work hard at focusing on HIM. Today, we suggest to you an advent book that Paige and I both have been the recipients of from our sweet friend Pam Yates. We both used the study last year and were blessed by it. So, as our team planned for this holiday season we agreed this would be a great suggestion for you so you can be blessed like we were!

Book Review: Preparing My Heart for Advent by Ann Marie Stewart
Last year, I was given an incredible book to use in my quiet times through the Christmas season. The book came at just the right time. It was October and I knew the holidays were coming. If I was honest with myself, anticipating Christmas, including the gift buying, the decorating, and the busyness, filled me with dread. I longed to worship Christ through this time. I longed to be content with my plans for celebrating Christmas and not compare them with the catalogs that would come in the mail. Preparing My Heart for Advent guided my heart to Christ early and turned my attention to Him daily. The book is divided into daily scripture readings and corresponding questions. It begins November 1 and ends on January 6. The book is uniquely organized to have an in-depth study every day of November. Then, in December the study is lighter as it reinforces the material from November.
Ironically, my attention and affection can be occupied with things other than Jesus during His celebration! This book was the perfect tool to keep my mind on the Savior all through this busy time of year. Satisfaction grew in my heart and it brought peace to my planning. After Christmas day, I looked back on the previous month with contentment. I had sought out the Savior and had experienced His presence over the hectic season.
"Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it." 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
