Calendar vs. Calender: What Will it Be This Christmas?

Keeping Christmas: Household Management

Immediately following the word calendar in the dictionary is another word that is pronounced the same way, but is spelled just a bit differently. It is calender and it's definition is a machine in which paper or cloth is made smooth and glossy by being pressed through rollers. In the Called to be a Keeper skill session "Household Management," Gena Sego points out that as the keepers of our home, we are also the keepers of the family calendar. As important as this is during the year, it is absolutely critical during the holidays. If you do not utilize a master calendar, you may find that you feel like you're being pressed through rollers like the other calender! There are many ways to keep a calendar and/or a to-do list. It can be a simple spiral notebook, a white board, or a weekly/monthly planner. You can Google calendar and you will find a myriad of free printable versions. Find what works for you and then we would like to suggest a few things to mark on it as soon as possible:
  • School parties
  • Work parties
  • Other gatherings
  • Christmas programs and/or plays
  • Rehearsals
  • Birthdays/Anniversaries that get lost in the busyness of the holidays
  • Any other special events
  • Christmas baking days
  • Shopping days
  • Prayerfully consider some goals, such as, I want to have my Christmas shopping done by or I will send out Christmas cards by...
It's impossible to be truly organized without some planning and impossible to plan without some sort of calendar.

May He bless your days with wisdom, especially in this busy season!

Putting it into practice: ~ If you don't have a family calendar, now is the perfect time to start using one. ~ Add the activities and events to your calendar, along with any holiday goals you've prayerfully decided to keep.

So teach us to number our days that we might present to You a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12

I just got my new calendar done for November and December. I purchased two posterboards and used markers to write in what's going on. Everything from Doctor appointments to parties, to cookie baking is on the calendars. Now, my husband (the only other reader in our house) can easily see what's going on, rather than asking me ten times what the plans are.
