For the Weary Mom
Maybe you are weary because of the never ending tasks.
Maybe you are weary because your child is struggling.
Maybe you are weary because your child is difficult to parent.
I get it. I've been there. I've been weary. I've been defeated. Today, I want to encourage moms who have a child that struggles to be kind consistently. Not too long ago, I had a child that was really struggling to choose kindness. I would see glimpses of kindness but it wasn't consistent. I would get discouraged and I would get frustrated. One evening I felt so defeated and I prayed and tried to remind my heart of these truths...
-I need to be my child's loving helper and resist my tendency to grow stern, harsh, and indifferent.
-I need to stop expecting perfection and start looking for mini-moments of progress.
-I need to remember some hearts take a little longer to shape and prayer is my greatest tool for shaping a heart.
(these tools were taking from Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles)
A prayer for a child's heart:
God, give my child a tender heart towards You and me. Give my child a teachable heart and a desire to grow in wisdom. Help my child to grow in kindness, compassion, gentleness, self-control and love. And help me to be careful with my child's heart by being consistently kind and prayerful. Amen.
