Keeping God a Priority

Posted by Lori Merrill on 01/18/2019

Last fall I found myself struggling to keep God as my priority. I didn’t have the passion of pursuit that I wanted and needed. When this happens, and it does more often than I would like, then I have to be very intentional to turn things around. Because of this I have found that there are steps I can take to help get me back on track. Maybe these will be helpful to you as well:

•Surround yourself with Him.
Listen to His Word being taught on Christian radio & podcasts. Worship Him all day through Christian praise and worship music. Talk with Him all day as well. We shouldn’t treat Him as though He is at the place where we last spent time with Him. He is with us always, no matter where we go.

•Separate yourself from the things of the world.
Do this through times of fasting, silence and solitude, and separation from the massive amounts of communication we have. Be faithful to take time now and then, as He leads to turn off the phone, TV, computer, or other devices and just focus on Him with praise music or no music. Spend time listening to Him in silence.

•Pray and ask for help.
Don’t be shy about telling God exactly how you are feeling and why you are struggling. He already knows, but by turning our struggles into prayers then we are inviting Him to work in and through us to accomplish His will.

Sweet Friend, God desires to strengthen us and draw us closer to Him. HE WILL respond to the actions above.

P.S. It was announced yesterday that on January 16th most people quit their New Year’s resolutions, if they haven’t prior to this day. This means that we barely make it past two weeks of doing our “new thing”! Let’s not let this happen to our resolution to make/keep God as our priority! Even if we have to renew it every month, the eternal benefits are worth it.

I’m praying that together we live Matthew 6:33–to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness. And Mark 12:30–to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength!
