Obedience Requires Dependence
Then He said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me." And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will." Matthew 26:38-39
We can learn so much just from this one glimpse of Jesus’ dependence upon the Father. He depended upon prayer so much that, rather than tell His crowd of disciples what was about to happen, or even the few who went farther with Him, He told God.
When Jesus was grieved and distressed He prayed to God. He went straight to God. He didn’t discuss it with the disciples, fret over it, or worry about it. He went straight to the Father.
Jesus made a choice here that is important to see. We need to ask ourselves if we are making the same choice when we are grieved and distressed. To obey God requires “Dependence upon God” and we practice our dependence by running to Him in prayer FIRST in all the situations that life throws our way.
