S'well® Bottle & Living Water

Posted by Lori Merrill on 08/08/2017

It's HOT outside! Here in Oklahoma we are getting to the hottest part of the summer…the dreaded August. I hope you are nourishing your body with an ample supply of water every day. And I hope you are nourishing your soul with the Living Water every day!

I find it easier to get the amount of water intake needed each day by filling my S'well® Bottle early and carrying it with me wherever I go. Similarly, I find it easier to nourish my soul by spending time in His Word FIRST thing when I wake. Then my mind is focused on Him throughout my day.

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33

God tells us in the book of Jeremiah that He is the fountain of Living Water. God’s people had turned from God and His ways and were not drawing from Him that which is essential for life—living water.

For my people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, to hew for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13

A cistern is simply a place to store something, usually water. What you put into a cistern is what you get out of it. In contrast, a wellspring has an unseen source from which you draw. The people of Jeremiah’s day had forsaken the wellspring—the Fountain of Living Waters for broken cisterns that couldn’t even hold water! We do the same thing when we turn from the Word of God to the counsel and wisdom of man or to our own wisdom. Oh friend, our loving, all-sufficient God wants to satisfy our every longing. In Him is found the wellspring of life. (Taken from Called to be a Keeper Bible study, Week 6)

We need water to keep our bodies hydrated so that all functions well within our temple; we also need the Word of God to keep our entire being functioning well so we walk in godliness. Let’s prod each other on to fill our souls with God’s Word first and foremost each day. May it be a reminder of how necessary and accessible our fountain of Living Water is. And as you take a drink of water throughout these hot summer days, may you be reminded of the refreshing feeling that you gain for your body, just as you did for your soul.

In His Love,

Lori Merrill
