Saying Yes to Family

Posted by Steph Whitley on 07/16/2020
Recently, my 13 year old asked me to go on a bike ride and I said “yes”. Even though it was 100 degrees and the humidity was 70%. Even though I didn’t really feel like it. I didn’t hesitate. With my teens, I guess I am realizing that they are asking to connect less and less so I want to make the most of every opportunity.

But when we were on the bike ride, I thought to myself how often do I hesitate when my husband asks me to connect. Whether it’s going for a walk or watching a movie with him, I have been more likely to hesitate and even say “no”. Sigh. It was time to make a “shift”. I want to be saying “yes” to my husband more than I am saying “no”. Life is about making shifts, isn’t it?

Maybe you have little ones at home? They can ask for your attention A LOT! When my boys were little, I would attempt to get on the floor and play legos or trains but I would set a timer for 15 minutes. I would tell them that when the timer went off, I had to do some of my chores.

What about you? Is there anybody you can say “yes” to more? We are all in this together. Here’s to saying “yes” this week to connection.
