Shelter from the Storms

Posted by Lori Merrill on 06/28/2012

You would think we would have taken this step long before now. Even though we have had several close calls with tornadoes, we didn't have a storm shelter installed until a couple of months ago. Why now? We finally quit procrastinating and planned for the time and the money to do what we have needed to do. It was hard to think about spending money on a shelter once a tornado had already passed. The thought process was, "How often will another come so close to us?" Each time we thought the same thing--it probably won't happen again. You can only say that for so long until you know you will be considered a fool for not heeding the warnings.

I compare this to my relationship to my Heavenly Father. I have had many warnings along the way that this life isn't easy and I need to plan and prepare for the storms in life. I can't wait until a storm hits to prepare for it. The preparation comes before the storms; in my daily time with Him. It comes in abiding with Him as stated in John 15:4-10. To spend time meditating on His Truth, memorizing it and making it a part of my daily walk is what He expects of me and what I need to survive in this world. To have a thriving and vibrant prayer life is an essential part of the preparation as well.

I can't procrastinate about the time and resources necessary in building a healthy and strong relationship with my Lord and Savior. I have to make my time with Him a daily priority and plan for it. Then I will be ready for the "storms" He allows into my life and I will be equipped to handle those as they come my way. And they will come. Scripture is clear about this.

Please join me in making this a commitment for your life. Join me in making God a priority--time in His Word and in prayer. Or renew that commitment once again. Then when those storms pass by, you can trust in Psalm 57:1--Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in You my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by.

In His Love,

Thank you for your encouragement ladies! It was a last minute thought Carla--actually by Steve, to put a verse. I almost waited too late! Concrete was almost dry. I love how God's Word gives us comfort.
