The Pains of Praying

Posted by Lori Merrill on 12/10/2018

There was a time when I never doubted my prayers would be answered. I have always known they were heard.

Prayers Prayed.
Prayers Unanswered.
Silence Solidified.

I have realized more and more of late that I have been protecting myself from pain. Not physical pain—but the kind of pain that comes from disappointment. Disappointment from not receiving what I believed was going to be received through prayer.

The pain comes from the wait. Sometimes we wait so long. How long have you been praying for something or someone and you still wait? Has doubt entered your mind like it has mine?

Friend, I preach this message to myself first. We must not quit. We can’t quit praying or quit waiting. God builds us through the wait. God accomplishes His purposes during the waiting. God uses the prayers and the waiting to work all things together for our good and for His glory.

Today, let’s wait together and let’s pray together. Here is my prayer for us:

Father God, please renew our vision so we see with eyes of faith. Empower us to pray more. Strengthen us to wait better. Remind us that You work even when we cannot see. And Lord, now that I know that protection leads to less praying; help me to quit protecting and begin praying. Amen.

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:7

In His Love,
Lori Merrill
